Weaselskin Equestrian Center
SIW Reflection
Big Takeaways- What were the biggest and most lasting things you learned during this experience? What aha moments did you have? What lessons did you learn that you will take with you moving forward through school and work?
The thing that I learned was personal growth. Personal growth was important for my sophomore inspire week because we were at Weaselskin Equestrian Center. There is 108 acres of land that you have to take care of and watch over. Also they have about 30 horses there that need to be taken care of daily. Weaselskin works to help horses and people grow together. Everybody makes mistakes and we have to live with that and move forward. At weaselskin, they teach you all kinds of important lessons. Such as believing in yourself, self-awareness, self-esteem, and confidence. We all make mistakes and the hardest part is to accept that you made a mistake. Your confidence crashes and you become reckless and careless. It is not acceptable to be reckless around horses. If you make a sudden move and the horse didn’t see it coming, then you or the horse could get injured.
Connections to YouScience- Look back at your YouScience results. How do your YouScience results connect to the experience you had during Sophomore Inspire Week? Did you see the skills and aptitudes highlighted in your YouScience results in your Inspire Week? How?
My YouScience results were ontrack.
Collaboration- How did you have to collaborate during this project? Describe how and why you collaborated, and then talk about how successful (or unsuccessful) that collaboration was. Dig into specific skills you used during this process!
During the week, we were given many tasks to complete. Most of them you could do with a partner. Such as moving hay bales, from one location to the next. Also when you have to shovel out the horse stalls, it's better to have another person than by yourself. When you took care of the horses’ we would usually be in a couple of groups.
Advice to Future Students- What advice do you have to future students about how to make the most out of their Sophomore Inspire Week experience?
Keep a positive mindset. If you go into it thinking that it's lame or not going to be fun, you will probably have a bad time. If you are open to new experiences’ the chances of you liking it and coming back are higher than before. Also you can be more open to others and different ways of learning and doing things. Lastly, be prepared! Don’t show up to a farming or outdoor thing that will be muddy with nice shoes. Max showed up in his nice air force 1 sneakers and got them all dirty. He had to clean them and that wasn’t fun. Bring whatever it says to bring and be respectful. Don’t be rude and use foul language around the people who are taking their time out of their day to bring you these different things and experiences.
