MUN Conference
The Afghanistan Crisis
What is a MUN conference? Mun stands for Model United Nations. this is a conference that real world leaders come together in peace and disguising a world issue that is happening currently that needs solving. My tenth grade class each picked a country to represent. for several weeks, we learned and studied about the Afghanistan crisis. We had to learn as much as we could about our country and what they thought about the Afghanistan Crisis.
MUN Policy Paper
Kenya

Kenya fully supports and believes in feeding as many afghan refugee’s possible. The Afghanistan Crisis. That is a heavy topic. The Us has been at war with the Taliban for almost 20 years. It all started in 1996. The Taliban had recently come to power due to local support. Only for a short time though. After the 9/11 attacks, a U.S invasion kicked the Taliban out. After losing power, the Taliban fled to Pakistan across the Afghanistan border. Only recently, has the Taliban got control over Afghanistan once again. There have been a lot of casualties between citizens over the past months. Just in the first half of 2021. Almost 360,000 afghans have been forced out of their homes and more than 300,000 people are fleeing to other countries that will shelter them for the time being. On top of that, there has been a huge drought in Afghanistan. Schools are shutting down, food is getting scarce, and there have been a lot of deaths, mainly women and children. Due to all this happening, Kenya and many other african countries have decided that they will help feed fleeing afghans during this time. The more time that we spend waiting around for someone to come up with a solution, the more lives are being ended and more innocent people are starving. If we don't act now, it might be too late.
What could we possibly do that nobody else has thought of? Well we can at least do the simple things. Such as providing food to refugees at refugee camps. With so many trying to escape, paces are shutting down because some countries are too scared to get involved. I don't blame them. This is why Kenya has decided to help afghans who are trying to flee the country. Little things go a long way. Also Kenya grows much of their food. That means that while we might be able to stop some refugees from starvation. We would be able to ship food to them in other countries or ship the food to the afghans.

MUN Conference Reflection
MUN Conference Reflection
Refinement : If you were going to do this again, or if you had a time machine and could go back to the start of this semester, what would you do differently? How would this change impact your learning and the project?
I would probably be more on top of the assignments. It's easy for the assignments to build off of each other and when you don't have one done then the rest are very hard to complete. Also having a planned schedule when assignments are due and actually following through. It's easy to get distracted and to put things off and when you do that, you start to get behind and lose motivation on how to move forward. If I was able to redo this assignment and follow my plan then I would be less stressed and more confident in my ability to do good work. If you are able to finish the assignment then you are feeling like you're prepared.
Growth: How have you grown as a learner and delegate during this project (think about habits, skills, knowledge, etc.)? What did you do to grow in this way?
I have grown by knowledge that if you are not on top of your work, then you really take a tumble. I am a procrastinator and for the most part, it doesn't work quite as well for me as I would anticipate. I have gained the knowledge that if you are not on top of your work, then you suffer the consequences. It is not fun to have to redo anything and not fun to be behind on something.
Engagement: How engaged were you during the actual exhibition? Why? What do you think contributed to your engagement or lack of engagement?
I was engaged throughout the entire exhibition. I didn’t say my speech or comment on anyone's speeches but I was engaged for the most part. I was participating in the resolutions and the amendments. I was listening to everyone else's speeches. I didn't say my own speech due to the fact that I felt unprepared because I waited too long and put it off. That was a big mistake.
Perseverance/Difficulty: What was most challenging/difficult for you about this project? Where and how do you think you could have improved your performance?
I would say that the most difficult thing about this project was the fact that it was ongoing. It's super easy to get behind because you think that you can put something off and then you fall behind. I always procrastinate and then I panic and then I don't do as well as I could have done. I could have saved myself from a lot of trouble but I didn't.
